2015 REGATTA – DINGHY SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
1 RULES

1.1 The Regatta will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) and these Sailing Instructions.

1.2 No boat or rig changes will be permitted during the event.

2 NOTICES TO COMPETITIORS

2.1 Notices to competitors will be displayed at the Clubhouse.

3 SCHEDULE OF RACES

3.1 Sunday 2 August – up to three races – no discards. Warning Signal Race 1: 11.50 or as soon as possible thereafter. Races 2 & 3 as soon as possible after Race 1 has finished.
(NOTE: Cruisers will start before the dinghies using the same start mark – their warning signal 11.40 – and use marks outside the dinghy course. Please keep clear of the start area until the cruisers have started).

4 RACING AREA

4.1 The racing area will be in Laxey Bay.

5 COURSES

5.1 The course will be as indicated by a letter displayed on the committee boat and sailed according to the attached diagram.

6 CLASSES

6.1 All boats shall sail within the same mixed handicap fleet.

7 MARKS

7.1 All marks will be round orange inflatable buoys.

8 THE START

8.1 Races will be started under rule 26.
5 minutes before the start – Class flag hoisted (ICF Numeral 1)
4 minutes before the start – “P” flag hoisted
1 minute before the start – “P” flag lowered
At the start – Class flag lowered

8.2 The starting line will be between the mast on the committee boat at the starboard end and the port end starting mark.

Boats not starting within 4 minutes after the start signal will be scored DNC

9 CHANGE OF POSITION OF THE NEXT MARK

9.l The race committee may move marks to maintain the configuration of the course relative to the wind. Such changes will not be signalled to the competitors. This amends rule 33.
10 THE FINISH

10.1 The finishing line will normally be between the mast on the committee boat displaying an orange flag and the nearby finishing mark.

11 PENALTIES

11.1 RRS rules 44.1 and 44.2 will apply

12 HANDICAP SYSTEM

12.1 The average lap / Portsmouth number system will apply.

13 PROTESTS

13.1 Boats wishing to protest shall inform the Race Officer immediately after finishing and within 30 minutes of the finish of the last boat in the last race of the day. Protest Notices will be posted at the clubhouse within 30 minutes of the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Competitors must check at the clubhouse as there will be no onus on the Race Committee to contact individuals.

14 SCORING

14.1 The ‘Low Point’ system of Appendix A will apply.

15 SAFETY

15.1 Adequate personal buoyancy for crew members must be worn in the boat at all times. Wetsuits do not constitute adequate personal buoyancy. Inflatable type buoyancy aids will not be considered adequate unless fully inflated. Anyone not in compliance with this instruction will be disqualified without a hearing.

Competitors are reminded that the first consideration of safety boats is the safety of
competitors.

15.2 Boats retiring from a race shall notify the Race Committee as soon as possible.

16 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

16.1 The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is
the crews alone (see Rule 4, Decision to retire).

Laxey Sailing Club, Committee, Race Officer, safety crews will not accept any liability for material damage, personal injury or death sustained prior to, during, or after the racing.

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of £2million.

17 SOCIAL

17.1 After the days racing, the results will be announced and refreshments provided in the clubhouse.
